Sum 41 is a Canadian rock band formed in 1996 in Ajax, Ontario. Known for their energetic fusion of punk rock, pop-punk, and alternative rock, the band gained widespread fame in the early 2000s with hits like “Fat Lip,” “In Too Deep,” and “Still Waiting.” Fronted by Deryck Whibley, Sum 41’s rebellious lyrics and high-energy sound made them a staple of the pop-punk scene, blending fast-paced guitar riffs with infectious hooks. Their debut album, All Killer No Filler (2001), was a major success, solidifying their place in the early 2000s rock landscape.
Over the years, Sum 41 has evolved musically, incorporating heavier metal influences into their sound, particularly with albums like Chuck (2004) and 13 Voices (2016). Their latest release, Heaven :x: Hell (2024), is a double album split into two distinct halves—Heaven embracing their classic pop-punk sound, and Hell exploring their heavier, metal side. This album marks a new chapter for the band, pushing the boundaries of their sound while staying true to their roots.
